The FTSE 250 was up slightly in early afternoon trade as markets tailed off their earlier highs. At 1415 GMT the midcap index was up 0.24% at 15,765 points.

Spectris led the risers after positing full-year results that revealed mixed global conditions made 2015 a rocky ride, showing increased sales, but depressed earnings.

The firm, focused on productivity-enhancing instruments and controls, saw sales grow by 3% at constant exchange rates to £1.19bn.

Shares in Bank of Georgia holding company, BGEO jumped as the company posted a 29% rise in 2015 profits to £87.6m boosted by a record revenues from its healthcare and banking businesses.

Revenues were up 39.6% to 751.3m Georgian laris (GEL), or £202m, while earnings per share rose 18% to GEL 7.93 (223p).

Among the fallers was Amec Foster Wheeler after HSBC rated the stock a 'hold' on Monday, while specialist engineer Renishaw was still feeling the effects of the Asian slowdown.
