Chemring, a manufacturer of high technology products and services to the aerospace, defence and security markets, has appointed the winner of the finance director of the year award, Andrew Lewis as its group finance director.

Lewis was group finance director of Avon Rubber from September 2008 until 30 November 2016. He was instrumental in the turnaround and subsequent growth of Avon, from a £10m to £300m market capitalisation company.

He was awarded the Finance Director of the Year Award twice, at the Quoted Company Awards in 2016 and at the ICAEW Financial Director's Excellence Awards in May 2011.

He is due to join Chemring’s board on 19 January 2017 to take over from Andrew Davies, deputy group finance director.

Chairman Carl-Peter Forster said: "I am delighted to welcome Andrew to Chemring's Board. He has a proven track record of success within our sector and enhancing shareholder value. Considerable work has been done in the past couple of years to strengthen the Group's balance sheet and improve its financial controls. Andrew's experience and drive will benefit the Group as we seek to progress our operational and financial performance."
