Conygar submits planning permission for two developments in Haverfordwest

Property investment and development company Conygar Investment said on Wednesday it had submitted two planning applications to Pembrokeshire County Council to develop its land.

The 7 hectare site at Slade Lane, Haverfordwest, was bought from Sainsbury's in 2015 with planning permission for a 95,000 sq.ft retail superstore and petrol station.

Conygar said they will found out in late 2016 if the applications were successful, and if approved construction could start early next year. The development was funded through Conygar’s available cash resources.

The first application proposed a retail led mixed use development which would comprise of 10 retail units with a combined floor area of 101,250 sq.ft, a 60 bedroom hotel and 434 parking spaces.

It would also mean building new internal roads to tie into the new roundabout on Thomas Parry Way and building a comprehensive new landscaping, lighting and drainage services.

The second application is for a five screen cinema and five unit restaurant development with 168 parking spaces and associated lighting and landscaping services.

The AIM listed company said the developments would create about 460 full-time jobs plus 23 full-time jobs during construction. It maintained that it would make sure employment opportunities benefit Haverfordwest and Pembrokeshire residents as a whole.

Chief executive Robert Ware said: "Following the withdrawal of Sainsbury's interest in Slade Lane, we believe that our revised proposals represent the optimal solution for the site and would result in an exciting new retail and leisure destination, which would further enhance and support the on-going development of Haverfordwest."

Shares in Conygar Investment rose 1.71% to 134p at 1700 BST.
