Forbes magazine's sports team rich list has a new leader, as American football side Dallas Cowboys has broken association football's dominance over the list, with their worth estimated at $4bn.

English football team Manchester United have finished 5th, after previously topping the group in 2011 and 2012, with a value of $3.32bn

The top 5 is made up of the Cowboys, Spanish football rivals Real Madrid and Barcelona, baseball's New York Yankees and United.

The list is dominated by American sports, with baseball, basketball and the NFL featuring heavily on the list. Indeed, only the aforementioned soccer giants along with German team Bayern Munich disrupt the US love-in in the top 20 richest teams in the world.

Despite missing out on playing in the lucrative European competition Champions League this year, Manchester United maintained their high ranking with a new deal with kit maker Adidas, reported to be in the region of £750mn.

Arsenal (23), Manchester City (28), Chelsea (36) and Liverpool (41) are the remaining English clubs to make the list.
