After Roy Hodgson's resignation as England football manager last night following his team's disappointing loss to Iceland at Euro 2016, bookmakers have installed a clear favourite to be his successor.
England under 21 coach Gareth Southgate is the 6/4 favourite with most bookies, despite not having a proven track record with a major club or international side.
In fact, the majority of the frontrunners are in the same position, as the betting odds seem to heavily favour a young and enthusiastic coach with no manangerial baggage.
Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe is next on 10/1 according to 888sports.com after guiding the club to Premier League survival in their first season as a top-flight club.
Alan Pardew is next on the bookies' list as he also comes in at 10/1, after a distinguished managerial career with various Premier League clubs, including current side Crystal Palace.
Newly-appointed Celtic manager Brendan Rogers also features at 11/1, although it remains to be seen whether he would leave the club after such a short time in charge.
Among the other prices offered by Paddy Power and other bookmakers are a few stand-out candidates.
John Terry is offered at a cool 100/1 after his various run-ins with the FA, and Sven Goran-Eriksson too has a three figure price.
Strangest of all perhaps is PP's offer of 150/1 for Mike Bassett, a fictional character portrayed by comedian Ricky Tomlinson in the 2001 film Mike Bassett: England Manager.
