The US Navy has confirmed that footage of unidentified flying objects flying through the sky are the real thing.

The objects seen in the military videos are “unidentified aerial phenomena”, spokesman for the Navy Joe Gradisher told CNN on Thursday.

The clips were released between December 2017 and March 2018 by To The Stars Academy of Arts & Sciences and show objects hurtling through the air that were captured with infrared sensors.

It remained unclear whether the flying objects were drones or what else .

Gradisher said referring to the footage recorded by military officers: "This is all about frequent incursions into our training ranges by UAPs. Those incursions present a safety hazard to the safe flight of our aviators and the security of our operations."

"For many years, our aviators didn't report these incursions because of the stigma attached to previous terminology and theories about what may or may not be in those videos," he added.

The statements from the US Navy came ahead of the planned raid of the controversial Area 51 on 20 September.

A group of people have joined on different social media platforms over the summer to plan an invasion of the famous military base located in the state of Nevada in a bid to finally discover what UFO pundits claim is the unusual level of secrecy around the site.

Popular culture and conspiracy theorists claim that the US Navy could be harbouring the remains of extraterrestrials inside the base and keeping it from public knowledge.
