Wednesday preview: France no-confidence vote, Global services PMIs in focus
All eyes in the middle of the week will be on no-confidence votes against the French government.
The first of those, tabled by left-wing opposition parties, is expected to be tabled at 1500 BST.
Against that backdrop, investors will be waiting on the release of a raft of purchasing managers' surveys covering services sector activity in the world's main economies.
Consultancy S&P Global's services Purchasing Managers' Index for the UK is due out at 0930 BST and a rival PMI for the euro area at 0900 BST.
The Institute for Supply Management meanwhile will release its own PMI, for the US this time, at 1500 BST.
Also on the economic agenda for Wednesday is a speech by Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey at 0900 BST.
He will be followed at 1330 BST by his opposite number at the European Central Bank, Christine Lagarde, and Federal Reserve president Jerome Powell at 1845 BST.
A report on US private sector payroll growth for December from consultancy ADP, at 1330 BST, may prove to be one of the session's key talking points.
At 1900 BST the Fed will release its closely-followed Beige Book.
