Tuesday preview: US services, Treasury debt auction in focus
Investors' focus on Tuesday would be on the US economy, with closely followed survey results for services sector activity and the jobs market due out in the run up to the release of the all-important non-farm payrolls report on Friday.
Also of keen interest would be the result of the US Treasury's latest auction of 10-year notes.
At 1500 BST the Institute for Supply Management would release its services sector Purchasing Managers' Index for December.
In parallel, the Department of Labor would publish its JOLTS labour market report covering job openings and quits during the month of November.
Across the Channel, the day's main economic report would be a preliminary reading on euro area consumer prices for December.
On home shores, overnight the British Retail Consortium would publish its retail sales survey for December.
Mortgage lender Halifax's Home Price Index would follow at 0700 BST and S&P Global's construction sector PMI at 0930 BST.
