According to the official Microsoft server status account on X, the company said: "We're investigating an issue impacting users attempting to access Exchange Online or functionality within Microsoft Teams calendar."

Exchange is Microsoft's server infrastructure that handles the company's Outlook email, calendars, and business collaboration apps.

Users reported not being able to view or send emails, with an error message saying, "Your request can't be completed right now". The outage is thought to be affecting services worldwide.

The company said it was working to "mitigate the issue", and has added a comprehensive list of impacted services and scenarios to its customer admin centre.

The outage is thought to have started early on Monday, with incidents reported to the Downdetector website starting around 0800 GMT.
