Week ahead: Federal Reserve, Bank of England in focus
All eyes over the coming week will be on the US central bank's policy decision on Wednesday.
A 25 basis point rate cut by the Federal Reserve, its first since 2020, is full priced in, together with 50% odds for a 50bp reduction.
So while a half point cut is not the most likely scenario, some investors may be wrongfooted either way.
Some analysts believe that a 50bp cut would not be excessive given how high rates have been and for how long.
Worth noting, reports for US retail sales and industrial production in August are both due out the day before.
The Bank of England meanwhile will decide on rates come Thursday, although in this case no change in rates is anticipated.
UK consumer price figures for August are also scheduled for release, on Wednesday morning.
Friday will bring with it rate decisions in China and Japan.
Central bank meetings are also scheduled this week in Brazil, Norway, South Africa and Turkey.
