MicroSalt files US patent application for new formulation
MicroSalt announced the filing of a new patent application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office on Thursday, for a new method to create granulated salt from powdered formulations.
The AIM-traded firm said the innovation was designed specifically for the food service industry, targeting fried foods such as French fries and fish, with the aim of reducing sodium content while ensuring consistent seasoning and enhanced flowability.
It said the development came as the global French fry market, currently valued at $16.6bn, is projected to grow to $21.9bn by 2030.
With more than 548,000 fast food restaurants worldwide, the majority serving French fries, MicroSalt said its new formulation would address a critical operational challenge for the industry while offering a health-conscious solution.
The company also announced a new partnership with Carma Hospitality, a restaurant chain based in Montreal, Canada.
Carma had incorporated MicroSalt's formulation into its operations, citing its effectiveness in maintaining seasoning consistency across various workstations and shifts.
“This patent filing marks an additional major milestone in our mission to reduce sodium consumption globally,” said MicroSalt chief executive officer Rick Guiney.
“Our dedication to research and development has led to a breakthrough that enables us to bring the low-sodium benefits of MicroSalt to the entire foodservice sector.
“With this new formulation, we are addressing a critical need in the French fry industry, which continues to expand rapidly.”
At 1244 GMT, shares in MicroSalt were up 3.12% at 82.5p.
