Superdrug is to expand its UK footprint by opening a raft of larger stores, the health and beauty retailer announced on Wednesday.

The chain, which is owned by Hong Kong conglomerate CK Hutchison Holdings, said it intended to open 25 best-in-class large stores in 2025, creating around 600 new jobs.

The new stores will be located across the UK, including Leeds Briggate - which has already opened - Guernsey and Cribbs Causeway in Bristol. A number of shops will also be refurbished.

Superdrug said its top largest 100 stores posted a 25% hike in sales in 2024, and saw an 8% uplift in footfall in January 2025.

Bigger stores offer various treatments and services alongside traditional products, including ear piercings, manicures, eyebrow threading, fragrance counters and nurse clinics.

Nigel Duxbury, Superdrug's property director, said the retailer wanted to boost customer experience. "This is just not about a quick and easy purchase, it is about engaging customers with added extras.

"We can see from our sales last year that investing in and increasing the number of large format stores in our estate allows us to accelerate our bricks and mortar strategy."

The retailer currently has around 780 stores in the UK and Ireland.
