Data processing technology company Ethernity Networks has signed a contract with a global wireless original equipment manufacturer (OEM) based in Europe to supply its ‘ENET 4840’ 40Gbps FPGA system-on-chip (SoC), it announced on Tuesday, with support for carrier ethernet switching, wireless bonding, and IPSec security.

The AIM-traded firm described the ENET 4840 as a customised version of the device used within the UEP-20 Universal Edge Platform product design, which would also be supplied to the OEM for manufacturing.
It said the initial committed order within the contract was worth about $0.4m, with the majority of the revenue accruing in 2022, and with additional orders anticipated thereafter.
The company said the contract specified that it would provide the customer with its ENET 4840 SoC with unique silicon-tuned software, which would fit into low-cost FPGAs capable of meeting the required prices of mass production, and enabling up to 40Gbps of throughput.
It said the SoC would also come pre-programmed with the IPSec security feature and Ethernity's newly-patented wireless bonding feature, which used load balancing to enable the transmission of a single data flow along multiple wireless streams without the need for point-to-point connection.
“This is further confirmation from the marketplace that our Universal Edge Platform with integrated bonding is an attractive offering,” said chief executive officer David Levi.
“We are confident that it will continue to sell well among wireless connectivity vendors within the 5G backhaul and midhaul market.”
