The AIM-traded firm said the selection was made by the charity's trustees, after an “extensive” 16-month procurement process.
It said it was now working to agree the final details of the contract with the charity over the next two months.
Operated by its ‘Special Mission’ strategic business unit, the seven -year agreement was expected to start on 1 January 2024.
While there could be no guarantee that the contract would be concluded, Gama said any award would see the air ambulance rotary aircraft fleet more-than-double in size, underlining the significance of the multi-aircraft long-term contract to the group.
“We are both proud and honoured to have been selected as the preferred bidder for this strategically significant contract after a hard-fought competition for a nationally important air ambulance contract,” said Gama’s Special Mission managing director Mark Smith.
“The Special Mission SBU will be working closely with the charity over the coming weeks and months to agree final terms and I look forward to the opportunity of working with Wales Air Ambulance Charity over the coming years.”
At 1301 GMT, shares in Gama Aviation were up 0.08% at 62.05p.
