The AIM-traded company said the unit, which regulates gas flow entering into a resuscitation device, has been entirely designed by Inspiration Healthcare and complemented the first of its own-designed medical devices, the rPAP Generator.
It said the rPAP Driver and rPAP Generator combined to form the Inspire rPAP system.
The drivers are re-usable, which presented “significant” cost benefits to users without stretching limited capital equipment budgets.
Inspiration said they are compact, lightweight and portable and when coupled with the rPAP Generator, the system reduced the effort needed to breathe during the first few minutes of life of a baby that needs resuscitation due to difficulties at the time of birth.
The system was being used by a number of hospitals in Scandinavia as part of a multicentre clinical trial.
“We are delighted to get this approval which means we can begin to distribute the products to the many customers who have already indicated their interest,” said Inspiration chief executive Neil Campbell.
“The Inspire rPAP combines many innovative features into one portable, easy to use system and is designed to work with our ‘LifeStart’ neonatal resuscitation platform which is to be used in a wide range of innovative clinical procedures being adopted in neonatal units such as optimal cord clamping.”
