UN worker who contracted Ebola has died
A United Nations worker, who contracted Ebola while working in Liberia and was being treated at a hospital in Germany, has died.
"We can confirm that the UNworker being treated here died last night from the Ebola virus. He was of Sudanese nationality," a spokesman for the St. Georg clinic in Leipzig said Tuesday.
The man, 56, died in the early hours of Tuesday morning at the hospital after arriving in Germany last Thursday for treatment.
He had been working as a UN medical official in Liberia, one of the worst affected countries by the outbreak.
The man was the third Ebola patient to be treated for the deadly virus in Germany, Der Spiegel newspaper reported.
Another patient is still receiving treatment in a hospital in Frankfurt and a third has been released from a hospital in Hamburg after five weeks of treatment, the German paper added.
