Friday preview: US CPI, UK GDP in focus
All eyes at the end of the week will be on the latest US consumer price data, which is expected to show that the cost of living is rising as its fastest pace since the early 1980s.
Consensus is for the annual rate of increase in CPI to accelerate from 6.2% for October to 6.7% in November.
Even at the core level, which strips out the most volatile components. food and energy, CPI is seen printing at 4.9%, against a rise of 4.6% during the previous month.
Nevertheless, economists at Barclays Research forecast that CPI will slow down to a 2.8% clip in the third quarter of 2022 and to 1.8% during the final three months of the year.
Also due out is a preliminary reading on US consumer confidence in December, courtesy of the University of Michigan.
On home shores, at 0700 GMT the Office for National Statistics will publish a reading on UK gross domestic product growth in October.
Economists have penciled-in a rate of expansion of 0.4% month-on-month following the 0.6% growth seen in October, yet while there is uncertainty regarding the monthly path of GDP, quarter-on-quarter growth is expected to hit 1.2% over the last three months of the year.
Across the Channel meanwhile, European Central Bank boss, Christine Lagarde, is due to participate in a discussion panel, starting from 0905 GMT.
