Key amongst these will be a reading on the US central bank-s preferred inflation gauge, the core price deflator for personal consumption expenditures.

Also due out are reports for US durable goods and weekly unemployment claims.

Overnight meanwhile, rate-setters in New Zealand will meet to decide in monetary policy.

Across the Channel, consultancy GfK will publish the results of its consumer confidence survey for December.

In the UK, at 1800 BST Bank of England chief economist Huw Pill will deliver a speech.

In the corporate arena, Easyjet is due to release its full-year results.

The low-cost carrier posted a big 16% jump in third quarter profits and its easyJet holidays arm had continued to go from strength to strength, market analyst Michael Hewson noted.

The analyst also noted that the back half of the year is when Easyjet tended to be "where the airline claws its way back towards being profitable, with the hope it can surpass last year’s annual profit number of £324m."

"Sentiment towards the easyJet share price has seen an improvement in the last few months having slipped to a 9-month low back in August, we’ve seen a gradual rebound back towards levels last seen in April."
