Technology innovation centre launches in London's Olympic Park
Here East, the creative campus in London's Queen Elizabehth Olympic Park, will host the centre
- The area will host various innovative companies to help coordinate their businesses
- Project will be formed over 68,000 square feet in the 1.2mn square feet campus
The largest Technology Innovation Centre in Europe is set to arrive in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford, East London, offering a home to companies of all shapes and sizes involved in the technology industry.
Property firm Delancey and ENTIQ, the team behind Canary Wharf's Level 39, launched the centre on Tuesday in the 1.2m square feet Here East creative campus at the former main site of the London 2012 Olympics.
The news is a welcome boost for London's tech industry, said London mayor Sadiq Khan, allaying fears that business would be lost on the back of Britain's decision to leave the European Union.
"I am committed to helping London become a world-leading tech hub and removing the barriers to its growth. London’s digital technology sector supports almost 200,000 jobs and will generate a massive £18bn for the capital’s economy this year," Khan said.
“This Innovation Centre will be a big boost to the sector and provide a hub for exciting new innovation."
The centre will be headed by ENTIQ founder Claire Cockerton, and her ambition for the project was outlined in a statement made regarding its launch.
“We have a bold vision and a strong team to deliver London’s next technology and innovation cluster. Working together at Here East, our members and partners will unite to shape new industry verticals that will make life better," Cockerton said.
“Our business values are firmly rooted in the local and Olympic history: creativity and making, multi-disciplinary working, inclusivity and internationalism, and we will remain a launch pad for British based scale-up businesses and a soft landing pad for companies coming to the UK for the first time."
Here East was a campus set up with the intention of providing tech companies with an open and collaborative space to work, with the new innovation centre designed to play a part in that.
