According to tech news site 9to5Mac, the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus were on track to be released as expected, but alongside the new iPhone X, which it was believed would be the first model of the device which not to incorporate a home button.
Estimates suggested the iPhone X might be available for customers to take home for as much as $1,000.
The release was a particularly significant one for the San Cupertino-based giant, which had seen its first yearly decline in sales of its flagship phone since its conception in 2007.
