Declining sales have plagued the company's laptop products in recent times, and Tim Cook's company has made the call to introduce the smaller, thinner version with a new touchscreen on its keyboard.
The new devices were revealed at an event at Apple's headquarters in Cupertino, California, and include 13-inch and 15-inch versions of the system. Another 13-inch version without the touchbar will be made available at a lower price.
Prices for the new versions range from $1499 to $2399 for the 15-inch version.
There were no new releases for either the MacBook Air range, or the desktop version of the computers.
The design of the computers was unintentionally leaked by Apple to any Mac users who had previously downloaded the latest software onto their devices on Thursday.
The company has also been criticised for jacking up prices of its laptops in the UK after the fall in value of sterling following the vote to leave the European Union.
The cheapest version of its MacBooks now starts at £949, having been available the day before at £849.
