Biden administration said to be mulling partial roll back of US trade tariffs on China
The Biden administration is expected to announce a partial roll back of US trade tariffs on Chinese goods exports as soon as this week.
Citing people familiar with the situation, the Wall Street Journal said the decision had been pending with President Joe Biden "in recent weeks"
Among other items, it may include a pause on tariffs for consumer goods such as clothing and school supplies.
However, according to Bloomberg, Washington may in parallel a new probe may be launched that could lead to more duties in strategic areas such as technology.
A final decision had yet to be made, Bloomberg further reported, citing a White House spokeswoman.
On 8 June, US Treasury Secretary, Janet Yellen, proposed "reconfiguring" the Trump-era tariffs imposed by the Trump White House, explaining that they "really weren´t designed to serve por strategic interests".
