CNBC poll shows Clinton doubling lead over Trump to nine points
Hillary Clinton has almost doubled her lead over US presidential election rival Donald Trump in the latest CNBC poll, as she now leads the Republican by nine points among registered voters.
In a June poll by the same news outlet, the Democratic candidate led Trump by just five points. Since that time, a raft of allegations have come the New York businessman's way after an Access Hollywood recording was released in which he appeared to endorse sexual misconduct.
The poll surveyed 804 US citizens from around the country, including a variety of ages and ethnicities. Conducted by Hart Research Associates, it has a margin of error of 3.5 points.
The CNBC All-America Economic Survey also revealed a variety of other information pertaining to the election, which will take place in less than two weeks time.
79% of people surveyed expressed anger or dissatisfaction with the current political system, a similar message espoused by Trump during his campaign.
However, the Republican nominee appears unable to harness that political disdain into voters, with a number of personal gaffes and controversial policies the likely cause.
A Clinton victory is seen as the safe bet, not least among market analysts, as senior economist at Aviva Michael Grady has said.
"A Trump victory could prove extremely destabilising and poses a material risk to global economic growth over the medium-term," Winge said.
"It would be particularly damaging for countries with small open economies and larger emerging nations, especially Mexico."
