Euro area unemployment steady at eight year lows
Unemployment in the euro area was unchanged in May in comparison to the previous month.
However, at 9.3% it was well beneath the May 2016 mark of 10.2% and at its lowest level since March 2009, according to Eurostat.
In comparison to April, at 15.034m there were 5,000 fewer unemployed in the euro area and 1.428m less when comparing to the year-ago figure.
By countries, the rate of joblessness in Germany and the Netherlands was unchanged in comparison to the previous month, at 3.9% and 5.1%, respectively.
Meanwhile, in Spain it slipped from 17.8% to 17.7% but in France and Italy it rose by a tenth of a percentage point to 9.6% and 11.3%.
