Eurozone consumer confidence improves in April
Economic sentiment in the Eurozone improved a little more than expected in April, according to data from the European Commission.
The EC’s economic sentiment indicator rose to 103.9 in April from 103.0 in March, beating expectations for a reading of 103.4.
Meanwhile, the business climate indicator nudged up to 0.13 from 0.12, just missing expectations of 0.14.
“The increase in the headline index is unspectacular, but sends an encouraging signal that economic conditions improved slightly at the beginning of Q2,” said Pantheon Macroeconomics.
“The improvement was broad-based across sectors with industrial, services and consumer sentiment all rising marginally. Across countries, the surge in the Italian headline index to 108.0 from 103.7, due to a jump in services confidence, stands out. Elsewhere in the major economies, though, the news was less upbeat. Sentiment fell in Spain and France, and improved only marginally in Germany.”
