Eurozone investor sentiment improves more than expected in April
Investor sentiment in the eurozone improved more than expected in April, according to data released on Tuesday.
The Sentix investor sentiment index for the bloc rose to -8.7 from -11.1 in March, coming in above consensus expectations for a reading of -9.9.
The current situation index improved to -4.3 in April from -9.3 the month before, while the expectations gauge was unchanged at -13.0.
Claus Vistesen, chief eurozone economist at Pantheon Macroeconomics, said: "These are decent numbers in light of the recent volatility in markets. They are consistent with EZ financial markets taking the banking turmoil in their stride, for now.
"The Eurostoxx 50 is up nearly 6% in the past month and EURUSD is pushing 1.10. Our forecasts imply that the picture for equities, and by extension for investor sentiment, will change for the worse in Q2, but so far so good."
