Greek unemployment steady in July, according to Elstat
The seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate in Greece in July came in at 25%, unchanged from June’s downwardly-revised 25% and down from 26.3% in the same month last year, according to figures released by the Hellenic Statistical Authority.
The July reading was the lowest since June 2012, when unemployment was at 24.9%. Economists had expected the figures to show a slight uptick to 25.4% in July.
The number of unemployed people amounted to just under 1.2m, while the number of inactive people, i.e. those who aren’t in a job or looking for a job, was just under 3.3m.
Among the younger generation, 48.6% of 15 to 24 year olds were without a job.
