The ban was imposed three months before over concerns about the coronavirus strain that was first detected in the UK.
Government spokeswoman Maria Jesus Montero told a news conference that restrictions on flights from South Africa and Brazil would be extended until 13 April due to concerns over the Covid-19 variants that existed there.
That may not lead to a corresponding rise in tourists from Britain as the UK government still forbids all foreign travel except for work, education or health reasons.
Nevertheless, following the UK government's review of its own ban in April, we may see foreign travel resume from 17 May onwards.
