US GDP grows 2.4% in second quarter, slightly ahead of forecasts

America's economy expanded a bit more quickly than anticipated over the second quarter.
According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, in seasonally adjusted terms, gross domestic product grew at a quarterly annualised clip of 2.4%.
Economists polled by Dow Jones Newswires had anticipated growth of 2.0%.
Household consumption on the other hand undershot forecasts, rising at a pace of 1.6% (Bank of America: 1.8%).
