US job openings fall by 353,000 in October
The number of job openings in the US fell by 353,000 in October to 10.3m, in line with market expectations.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, job openings decreased by 101,000 in state and local government, excluding education, 95,000 in nondurable goods manufacturing, and 61,000 in federal government.
On the other hand, the number of job openings increased by 76,000 in other services and by 70,000 in finance and insurance.
Over the course of the month, the number of hires and total separations were little changed at 6.0m and 5.7m, respectively. Within separations, quits accounted for 4.0m, and layoffs and discharges made up another 1.4m.
