US initial jobless claims rose 3,000 to 287,000
Initial weekly unemployment claims Stateside increased by 3,000 to reach 287,000 last week, according to the Department of Labour.
Economists had been expecting a rise to 285,000 over the seven days to 25 October.
The four-week moving average of jobless claims decreased by 250 to 281,000.
Secondary unemployment claims, those which are not filed for the first time and for the week ending 18 October, rose by 29,000 to 2.384m.
