Weekly US jobless claims fall to new post-pandemic low
US jobless claims continued falling over the past week, reaching a new post-pandemic low in the process.
According to the Department of Labor, in seasonally adjusted terms, initial unemployment claims fell by 10,000 over the week ending on 23 October to reach 281,000.
Economists at Barclays Research had forecast a drop to 280,000.
The four-week moving average meanwhile fell by 20,750 to 299,250.
In parallel, secondary unemployment claims, those which are not being filed for the first time and referencing the week until 16 October, dropped by 237,000 to 2.243m.
