US pre-open: Major indices look set to extend losses another session
Wall Street futures were in the red ahead of the bell on Friday as a rollercoaster week gets set to draw to a close.
As of 1220 GMT, Dow Jones futures were down 0.45%, while S&P 500 and Nasdaq-100 futures had the indices opening 0.68% and 1.14% weaker, respectively.
The Dow closed 249.13 points lower on Thursday, a roughly 500 point turn around from early gains, to extend Wednesday's losses.
Traders will look to the Federal Reserve's Christopher Waller and Patrick Harker on Friday, who will deliver speeches at 1730 GMT and 2100 GMT, respectively, as investors hope to gain more insight into the central bank's future plans for US monetary policy.
On the macro front, a preliminary reading of the University of Michigan's January consumer sentiment index will be published at 1500 GMT, while the Federal Government's monthly budget statement will be released at 1900 GMT.
In the corporate space, shares in Lyft slumped 30% in after-hours trading as weak guidance sent investors running for the hills. The ride sharing company lost $588.0m on $1.2bn in revenues.
Newell Brands will report earnings before the opening bell.
