Government to outline energy support for businesses next week
The government said on Wednesday that it will outline plans next week to support businesses through the energy crisis.
A spokesman for prime minister Liz Truss told reporters that the scheme would help with October energy bills and that it would be backdated if necessary.
"We will confirm further details of the business support scheme next week. The scheme will support businesses with their October energy bills and that includes through backdating if necessary," he said.
"We are speaking to energy companies and businesses and representative organisations to provide them with reassurance on the points I've just set out."
The government announced last week that from 1 October it would be capping energy bills for UK households at £2,500 for the next two years, saving the average household around £1,000 a year. Truss said at the time that businesses would get "equivalent support".
Typical household gas and electricity bills had been set to rise from £1,971 to more than £3,500 on 1 October, with the potential to reach £6,000 in January 2023, when the next price cap review was due.
