Trump to start tax reform process next week, Cohn says
Donald Trump’s chief economic adviser Gary Cohn has said that the US President will begin to centre his agenda around tax reform from next week.
In an interview with The Financial Times, the former Wall Street banker said that while Trump will try to push the tax legislation through, ultimately it is up to Congress to form the new tax bill.
Tax reform was one of the major promises that the Trump campaign was built on, with the Republican pledging to lower corporation tax to 15% in an effort to create more jobs domestically.
Cohn told the publication the administration is ‘completely engaged’ on reforming taxes in the coming months.
“Starting next week the president’s agenda and calendar is going to revolve around tax reform,” Cohn said.

“He will start being on the road making major addresses justifying the reasoning for tax reform and why we need it in the US.”
Trump’s relationship with a Republican-dominated House and Congress has been a difficult one during his opening term in the White House, particularly after a failed bid to force through healthcare reform.
Cohn denied that Trump had a bad relationship with House speaker Paul Ryan and leader Mitch McConnell and that both sides would work together to ensure tax reform would be a success.
“We work well together, and we have made a massive amount of progress. We released a statement at the end of July saying we were united in a framework that we intend to move through the legislative process.”
