UK inflation expectations edge higher, BoE says
Britons' inflation expectations moved moderately higher in August but were unchanged on longer time horizons.
The median expectation for inflation among the British public rose from 2.0% to 2.2%, according to the Bank of England's quarterly Inflation Attitudes Survey.
However, when asked to predict inflation in the twelve months after that, respondents' median answer was 2.2%, unchanged from May.
Over longer time-frames, say in five years' time, respondents pegged the rate of inflation at 3.0%, down from 3.4% in the last survey.
A slightly smaller proportion of respondents, 20%, believed interest rate increases would be better for the economy, versus the 21% who said they believed that in the last poll.
