The boss of Anglo American has said that the mining group would be open to takeover offers if an attractive bid presents itself.
In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Mark Cutifani said that his role as chief executive is to "create value, however that may be shown".
He said: "Our job is to do a good job with the business, and at the end of the day, if somebody sees value, then there's a conversation to be had."
Cutifani said that he was "very open", but that his ambition was to keep Anglo as a company in its own right.
He said that a hypothetical deal is "not what we're setting this business up for".
The stock was up 2.5% at 1,561p by 16:08 on Tuesday.
