The FTSE 250 digital security company did not give a date for Nick Viney's arrival as senior vice president and general manager for the division.
Viney was appointed as Cyber 1's CEO in January 2019 after seven years at McAfee and earlier jobs at Microsoft, Google and Arthur Andersen. Cyber 1 replaced Viney in February 2020 and said he was "released from his role".
Avast, whose brands include AVG, said Viney would lead its growth in smart home security and expand the group's security products and partners including telecoms providers and equipment makers.
Viney said: "Avast is a company I have long admired for its commitment to innovation, focus on the customer and for its mission to make the world a safer place … I'm looking forward to leading some important projects for the company tackling real-world cybersecurity problems and issues for consumers today."
Also on Wednesday Avast said it had launched a new privacy product, BreachGuard, to give people control over their personal data on the internet by alerting them to data breaches affecting credentials, helping remove personal information from third-party databases and analysing online accounts for privacy weaknesses.
