Huawei apologises after misleading advertisement
One of the world’s largest smartphone makers, Huawei, has been forced to take down an advertisement for its flagship P9 smartphone after it was discovered to be misleading.
The Shenzhen-based, employee-owned corporation posted an impressive photograph of a woman on social media on Monday, along with copy explaining how the handset features a Leica-brand camera.
But sharp web users were quick to find that the photo wasn’t taken with the P9 at all, as a quick look at the EXIF data revealed it was taken with a Canon EOS 5D Mark III.
EXIF data is information attached to most digital photographs, giving information on when the photo was taken and with what equipment.
“"It has recently been highlighted that an image posted to our social channels was not shot on the Huawei P9,” the company said in a statement.
“The photo, which was professionally taken while filming a Huawei P9 advert, was shared to inspire our community.
Huawei said it recognises that it “should have been clearer” with the captions for the image.
“It was never our intention to mislead. We apologise for this and we have removed the image.”
