Rathi succeeds Alexander Justham, who served as CEO since June 2012 and informed the group of his decision to leave earlier this year.
Chief executive Xavier Rolet said: “During the last year, Nikhil has played a key role driving the group’s strategy in key markets, such as China and India as well as supporting key integration projects across the group.
“I’m confident that under Nikhil’s leadership, London will continue to be the premier global market for both domestic and international companies that are attracted to London’s unrivalled international investor base and deep pool of liquidity when raising capital to grow their businesses.”
Rathi will continue to serve as director of International Development for the group and as a member of the LSEG Executive Committee.
At 0933 BST, LSE shares were down 0.6% at 2,391p.
