McLeland joins from Barclays, where she has been group treasurer since 2018, with responsibilities that included capital management and strategy, principal equity investments and investor relations.
Over a career of more than 20 years at Barclays, McLeland has held a series of senior roles. Prior to that, she spent a number of years in investment banking with Merrill Lynch and Salomon Brothers.
McLeland will join M&G in May and Paul Cooper will stay on as interim CFO until then.
Chief executive John Foley said: "With almost three decades of international banking and capital markets experience, Kathryn is an outstanding addition to the already strong M&G leadership team. I look forward to working closely with her."
