But the subprime lender said that Simon Thomas was expected to return to work no later than June 2019.
Tony Skrzypecki was to take up Thomas's duties during his absence as interim chief financial officer, effective immediately, but would not take his seat on the board.
Skrzypecki had 25 years' experience as a partner at consultancy PwC, where he focused on mergers and acquisitions, especially of the non-friendly sort, or activist activity, the company said in a statement.
His experience also included working with sovereign wealth funds and private equity.
