Meredith, who joined the FTSE 250 group in 1988 and was appointed to the board in 1992, will leave the role he has held for the last 24 years on 10 May next year and will be replaced by Kevin Boyd.
The latter, who will join the company a month before Meredith's departure to ensure a smooth handover, has held the role of finance director at Oxford Instruments since 2006.
"I am delighted to welcome Kevin to Spirax-Sarco as David's successor," said group chief executive Nicholas Anderson.
"Kevin is a highly experienced Finance Director with a strong international track record across a number of sectors. Kevin also has considerable experience operating at a senior level in public companies."
