The company said the attack affected Funky Pigeon's systems on 14 April and that it was investigating the incident with outside experts.
No customer payment data such as bank account or card details were at risk but WH Smith said it was checking whether personal data such as names, email addresses and personalised designs were exposed.
The FTSE 250 group said the incident would not have a material impact on its financial position and that its first-half results are comfortably in line with the consensus forecast it compiled.
At 07:50 BST, Funky Pigeon's website said: "Oops! We're experiencing some issues and we can't accept new orders at the moment. Please try again later!"
