The airline said on Thursday that the deputy chair will deputise for the chairman if he is not present at the board. Johnson has been appointed to the role due to his industry experience, as well as his long association with the company, it said.
Wizz also announced the creation of a Safety, Security and Operational Compliance Committee, chaired by Charlotte Pedersen, to assist the board with oversight of policies, practices, objectives and performance in relation to safety, security and operational compliance management.
Chairman William Franke said: "As Wizz Air continues to grow, establishes new AOCs and adds more bases and aircraft in Europe and beyond, the addition of the new Safety, Security and Operational Compliance Committee will reinforce the group's strong safety culture and enhance oversight of the Group's expansion plans.
"In addition, with the creation of the role of deputy chair, the company will benefit greatly from the strong aviation experience of Stephen Johnson and his understanding of Wizz Air."
