The FTSE 100 group's Landor brand consulting and design agency made the purchase of a majority stake in the business as part of a strategy to broaden its creative capabilities, in this instance in screen-based and multi-channel branding.
ManvsMachine, which has worked on a range of global campaigns for clients that include Nike, Microsoft's Xbox, Honda and Audi, generated £3.4m of revenues in the year to 21 May.
Its other specialisation is creating identity campaigns for broadcasters, having worked with channels such as Channel 4's Film 4, Discovery, NBC Universal, Nickelodeon, ITV2, SyFy and Sweden's Kanal 5.
"This acquisition continues WPP's strategy of developing its services in fast-growing and important sectors and markets," the company said in a statement.
Landor is part of WPP's branding and identity, healthcare and specialist communications segment, which in the last full year generated revenues of almost $6bn.
