Gibraltar overwhelmingly votes to Remain
The first results in the United Kingdom’s referendum to leave the European Union have come in from the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar, at the southern tip of the Iberian Peninsula.
A total of 20,172 votes were counted in the territory, with 19,352 or 96% for Remain and just 832 for Leave.
It was understood before the result that Gibraltar was going to vote to Remain by a large majority, as a result of its land border with Spain and mainland Europe.
