Xi Jinping vows 'no force can stop' Chinese nation
Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Tuesday in a speech commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Chinese Communist Party’s rule that no force can stop the Chinese people and the nation from developing.
“There is no force that can shake the foundation of this great nation,” Xi said. “No force can stop the Chinese people and the Chinese nation forging ahead.”
Xi did not specifically mention any other country by name and emphasised that China would pursue peaceful development.
Jinping also assisted a military parade showcasing the country’s technology with 15,000 troops and weapons including hypersonic drones and intercontinental ballistic missiles.
This was followed by a civilian parade that featured tributes to national icons from the communist regime.
But the ongoing protests in Hong Kong clashed with the message of strength and unity as residents in that special administrative area continued to strike against the Chinese government and to win support from anti-Beijing politicians.
Xi in his speech promised to “maintain the long-term prosperity and stability” of Hong Kong and said the government was committed to the political template which gives the city limited autonomy, ‘one country, two systems’.
China's leader concluded his speech saying: “Long live the great Communist Party of China. And long live the great Chinese People!”
