FTSE 100 movers: Barclays bounces; Fresnillo loses its shine
London’s FTSE 100 was up 1% at 7,478.33 in afternoon trade on Monday.
Barclays was among the top gainers, recovering from heavy losses at the end of last week, when bank shares took a hit after a spike in Deutsche Bank credit default swaps.
The sector also found some relief after it was announced that First Citizens Bank had agreed to buy the deposits and loans of collapsed Silicon Valley Bank from US regulator the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC).
Oil giant BP was also a high riser as oil prices advanced.
On the downside, precious metals miner Fresnillo lost its shine as gold prices slipped.
