FTSE 250 movers: Falling mining and oil stocks outweigh rising housebuilders

Diversified mining group Vedanta Resources was a heavy faller on the FTSE 250, dropping over 7%, as an aversion to risk hit share prices across the sector. Polymetal and KAZ Minerals were also suffering in afternoon trade.

Meanwhile, a steep drop in the price of Brent crude, down 2.5% at $58.82 a barrel, was weighing on oil and energy services stocks such as Hunting and Tullow Oil.

In contrast, housing shares were performing well, including Bellway after Barclays upgraded the stock to ‘overweight’ from ‘equalweight’ and raised the target price to 2,799.9p from 2,096p, noting the growth ambitions of the UK’s fourth-largest housebuilder.

Redrow was also advancing after Barclays named it as its top pick in the sector and raised its target price on the stock to 560p from 471.60p, keeping it at ‘overweight’.

Healthcare groups such as Al Noor Hospitals and Spire Healthcare were also in demand.
